5 Yoga Poses for Better Sex

This new year, health is probably an issue coming to your mind soon in the form of resolutions. But how about feeling better and enjoying a better sex life? GetLusty For Couples is totally serious about being healthy, because being healthy can give you a better sex life. This is the second in a series on using yoga for better sex. Our yogini, Lora Swarts, is here to talk about how yoga can be used to improve your sex life.

* * *

Yoga has an abundance of benefits for both your mental and physical well-being. As a yoga student myself, I have seen changes in my own body that, honestly, running never gave me. The endorphins are still there after a yoga class, however what's not there is a feeling of anxiousness. When I would run I would compete with myself. "Run faster" or "run farther" "don't walk, that is for quitters." Running which once was fun, had turned into a very competitive personal sport that I really needed to break up with. When I found yoga, my entire mindset changed.

I have no more competitions with myself. I feel better emotionally, and I have more confidence. Yoga melts away anxiety, poor body image, and fatigue and worry. When you are free from these, then your inhibitions seem to dissolve as well, bringing you closer to better sex and orgasm. When you are connected to your inner self and spirit rather than the clutter in your head, you get closer to the present and worry less about how you are performing or what your body looks like. The sex becomes more freeing and uninhibited.

I always recommend that everyone should give yoga a shot.  Soon enough you will start to reap the benefits and your partner will too. In our last post, I recommended 5 yoga poses to help your body and mind get in better shape for sex. Now I am back with 5 more poses! Try doing these with your partner for a little added fun before you head to the bedroom.

#1 Cat/Cow

Cat/cow pose is a simple warm-up that engages your pelvic muscles. When you are doing cat/cow you strengthen your Kegel muscles, the ones that contract during orgasm.

To do cat/cow pose:

Come into a table top position with your shoulders over wrists and your hips directly over your knees. Inhale (cow) drop your belly, lift your chest up away from your belly and extend your tailbone toward the sky. Exhale (cat pose), press into your hands, round your back like a cat, gently contract your abdominal muscles. Repeat these moves six times.

#2 Plank pose

Plank pose helps strengthen core and abdominal muscles.

To do plank pose or as my yoga teacher says, "plankasana":

Stack your shoulders over your wrists. Keep your body flat as a board. Press back through your heels. Hold plank pose for 30 seconds and rest for 15 seconds and repeat for another 30 seconds. The yogi push up, also known as, chaturanga, is also very important in strengthening your arm muscles because they require lots of control. To do a chaturanga, come forward onto your toes, bend your elbows (keeping them close to your ribcage) and lower half way down creating a 90 degree angle with your arms. Hold in this low push up for a few seconds, without letting your body collapse. To rest, come down to your stomach and rest with one ear on your mat. Doing planks and yogi push ups will get your arms toned and ready for any sexy position in your future!

#3 Cobra

Cobra pose, is a heart opener pose. Heart openers connect to our heart chakras. Love, energy, and breath come from the heart chakra and therefore this pose indirectly connects to our sexual intimacy. Its an energizing, mild back bend too. So when you are feeling too tired, try a few cobras to open your heart and awaken your sexual energy!

To do cobra:

You can enter cobra after lowering from plank pose, or just get right into on its own. Lie on your belly with your palms facing down, close to your low ribs. Draw your legs together and press the tops of your feet into the floor. Press your hands down evenly as your draw your elbows close to the sides of your body. On an inhale, using the strength of your back, not the force of your hands, lift your chest off the mat and draw your shoulders away from your ears. Gaze slightly in front of your mat to keep your head, neck and spine aligned. This pose comes from your lower back, so release the tension in your glutes. Hold this pose for about 10 seconds, then gently release to the floor. Do three sets of cobra pose.

#4 Utkata Konasana or Goddess pose

Who doesn't want to feel like a goddess in this victory squat? This pose strengthens your glutes, thighs, quads and abdominal muscles. You will feel strength from your insides, out.

To do goddess pose:

Stand at the top of your mat. Step to the right, opening your legs about three feet apart. Turn your heels in and your toes out. Bend your knees until you are in a wide squat and your thighs are parallel to the ground. Ensure that your knees are directly over your ankles so adjust your stance if you need to. Bring your hands to prayer position. Hold here for 5 focused, deep breaths.

#5 Bound angle pose

Baddha Konasana, or bound angle pose, opens up the thighs and groins while increasing blood flow to your genitals.

To do Baddha Konasana:

Sit with your legs out in front of you. Bend your knees, draw your heels as close to your pelvis as possible and bring the soles of your feet together. Allow your knees to open. Always keep the outer edges of your feet planted on the floor. Grasp your big toes with your thumb, index and middle fingers.  Don't force your knees open, rather release the heads of your thigh bones to the floor and your knees will follow. Your pelvis should be in a neutral position and your perineum parallel to the floor. Hold for 1-5 minutes. To release, on an inhale, slowly bring your knees together and straighten your legs out in front of you.

Try these five yoga poses to gain some strength, confidence and better circulation. Do these poses in a row to create a mini yoga sequence that you can do anywhere! Add in some downward facing dogs and child's pose when you need to rest.

Yoga for sex. Yes, we were surprised, too. Breathing, flexibility and strengthening exercises is how yoga can help you improve your sex life. Enjoy new positions you never thought you would be able to do. Our resident yogini and staff writer Lora Swarts is here to talk about how you can use yoga to have better sex. Read on!

* * *

Yoga is something I am extremely passionate about. I've been practicing yoga exclusively for almost two years, and I even teach yoga part-time. What began as just exercise has become so much more — I now practice yoga because it gives me mental clarity.

Since practicing yoga, I have become less stressed, more confident, and physically and emotionally stronger. With benefits like increased strength, flexibility and weight-loss, yoga is an all-around winner! When you feel more confident, have better stamina and flexibility, naturally you will want to have more sex and and better sex. Here are 5 yoga poses to help improve your sex life! Note: some of these poses may not be suitable for pregnant women. Our Lora Swarts reports.

In this series on yoga for better sex, I am here with 5 poses that will definitely rev up your sex life! Remember to consciously breath in every pose and use modifications when necessary.

#1 Balasana (Child's pose)

This pose is great for relaxing and drawing inward. This pose will help you focus, relax and draw you into the present moment (which is always great pre-sexy time). Balasana gently stretches the hips, thighs and ankles. Rest in this pose for a few minutes.

After this pose you will definitely feel refreshed and more in tune with your breath, which equates to feeling more sensual.

How to do child's pose: kneel on your mat. Bring your big toes to touch and sit back onto your heels. Separate your knees as wide as your yoga mat or as wide as your hips. Lay your torso down in between your thighs and rest your head on your mat. Reach your arms straight out in front of you with your palms facing down, or rest your arms alongside your torso, palms facing up. Allow your shoulders to release toward the floor. With every inhale, expand your rib cage and lengthen your breath. With every exhale, deflate and release any stressful thoughts or parts of your day.  Use your breath to focus and calm your mind.

#2 Ahdo Mukha Svanasana (Downward Facing Dog pose)

Downward facing dog is great for strengthening your arms and legs and stretching your shoulders, calves and hamstrings. This is a very energizing pose and can also calm your mind and relieve stress.  It is both a calming and invigorating pose, and really helps you get into the present moment. Plus, your butt is already in the air — a great "come hither" signal to your partner!

How to do downward dog: Come into a tabletop position with your knees directly under your hips and your hands under your shoulders. Spread your fingers as wide as you can. Keep your wrist creases parallel with the top of your mat. Lift your knees off the floor and begin to straighten your legs. For a bigger stretch in your hamstrings, lengthen your stance so your heels come slightly off of the mat. Keep your head between your upper arms and draw your shoulders down towards your tailbone. Press into your hands, and press back through your heels. Stay here for 1-3 minutes. As you release, drop down into child's pose.

#3 Upavistha Konasana
(Seated wide-legged forward fold)

This pose is great for your low-libido. It improves blood flow to your lower half and brings energy and vitality to your pelvic area. The more blood flowing through your veins, the higher your arousal. This pose not only calms the mind, but it helps stretch the insides and back of your legs and releases your groins.

How to do a wide-legged forward fold: If you have tight hips, sit up on a folded blanket. Open your legs wide, to form a 90 degree angle. Roll onto the front edges of your sitting bones (untuck your pelvis). Point your toes up to the sky and activate your feet. Find a tall spine and breath into your low belly. With a elongated spine, fold forward from your hip joints. With every exhale fold a little bit deeper. Rest your head on a block for support or if you can, fold all the way forward to the floor. Stay in this pose for 1-3 minutes. When you are ready to come out, gently rise up with a long spine and draw your legs together.

#4 Garudasana (Eagle pose)

This is one sexy pose and is even in the Kama Sutra. This snake-like posture builds strength, detoxes, and builds confidence all in one! In this pose you wrap one leg around the other like a rope, and once you release your limbs, all the blood rushes through your cervix! This pose really gets you ready and in the mood.

How to do eagle pose: Stand upright with your feet firmly planted into the floor. Lift your left leg and balance on your right foot. Wrap your leg leg around your right thigh and then wrap your left foot around your right calf. Stretch your arms out in front of you, parallel to the mat and spread your scapulas wide across your back. Cross your left arm under your right, so that your right arm is on top of your left. Then, cross your wrists so your palms are facing each other. Bring your hands to touch, lift your elbows up and reach your finger to the sky. Stay here up to 30 seconds. Unleash your grip and repeat for the same amount of time on the opposite arm and leg.

#5 Bridge pose

We all know by now why Kegel exercises are important. They tone and strengthen your vagina and pelvic floor muscles as well as improve orgasms. Bridge pose is like doing a Kegel because you are squeezing the same pelvic muscles. Bridge pose also increases metabolism! It's definitely a win-win pose.

How to do Bridge pose: Lie on your back with your feet hip distance apart and flat on the floor. Reach down with your fingertips and see if you can touch your heels. If not, wiggle your feet closer to your buttocks until your fingers graze the back of your heels. Press into your feet, and lift your hips up to the ceiling. Try and clasp your hands underneath you, grab your ankles or lay your palms pressing face down on the mat beside you. Draw your shoulder blades together. Hold up to 1 minute. To release from this pose, slowly lower yourself one vertebrae at a time. Come to rest on your back, separate your feet mat-width apart, and bring your knees in to touch. This will release your low back.

Thank you Yoga Journal for some great information on these poses.

Lack of sleep can greatly affect your sex life. A missing sex life can be attributed to fatigue, lack of exercise, poor diet, and low iron. Low iron, also know as anemia, can be link to feeling tired, weak and worn out. Meat, fish, cereals, dark leafy greens, and shellfish will provide you with iron as well as a daily vitamin supplement.

#2 Zinc

According to Livestrong, In an Australian study published in the "Asian Journal of Andrology" in 2009, researchers investigated the effect of zinc on 458 subfertile men. The team found that zinc deficiency leads to gonadal dysfunction and decreased testicular weight and can deplete levels of testosterone.

Zinc plays a crucial part in sexual development. Why? Men require zinc to create sperm. Find zinc in one of our favorite aphrodisiacs: oysters. Zinc is also found in eggs, beans, nuts and whole grains.

Vitamin C helps in strengthening blood vessel walls and helps the synthesis of hormones essential for sex. Vitamin C also helps prevents colds and improves your immune system. Eat lots of citrus fruits, kiwi and peppers for some much needed Vitamin C!

#4 Vitamin E

Vitamin E is referred to as the "sex vitamin" because it has been said to help in the production of sex hormones, which aids in attraction, desire and mood. This vitamin can also be used locally in the woman's vagina as a lubricant to help increase their experience and rehydrate tissue.

Be careful, though, if using latex condoms and oil based lubricants as it could reduce the effectiveness of the condom. For women: Poke a vitamin capsule with a pin and apply to your vagina several times a week to help increase sensation! Find Vitamin E in capsule form, or get it from foods like wheat germ, green vegetables and surprisingly, margarine.

#5 Ginseng

Ginseng can increase blood flow through a man's lower extremity and increase a female's desire, performance, energy and orgasm.

Ginseng affects the dopamine system which researchers believe trigger the sex drive. Men and women have been reportedly to feel more in the mood after taking ginseng supplements and being more excitable. Ginseng is not recommended if you are breast feeding due to the estrogen like effects.

#6 Maca

Maca is said to improve lust and orgasm in both men and women. It is also used to improve one's strength, energy, stamina and libido. #7 Horny Goat Weed

As the name suggest, Horny Goat Weed is a dark, leafy plant has been attributed to boost your libido! In men specifically, this herb has been found to correct erectile dysfunction. This herb can be taken in tea form with no known side effects. However, this herb is inconsistent in its commercial production, so you can get a bad batch that won't do anything for you.

7 Reasons You Should Sleep Naked

Naked November is finally here! Unless you are a nudist, you spend most of your time clothed. We are so used to being bundled up that we have no clue what we look like au naturale. Naked November at GetLusty.com is all about shedding your layers, physically and emotionally, and getting naked! If you are new to this whole naked thing, there is some good news! You have about 8 hours in a day where you can be naked in a safe and comfortable environment. Sleeping naked is freeing and we recommend it! So strip down and hop into bed. GetLusty's Lora Swarts is here with 7 reasons to start sleeping in the buff!

Note: If you live in Minnesota don't sleep naked because it's against the law!

* * *

#1 It's comfortable

Clothes are never really comfortable when you snooze. Underwear, boxers, and t-shirts all bunch up! Stop tossing and turning and opt for a more relaxed and cozy night time outfit: your own skin. Sleeping naked may not cure insomnia, but it will give you a more comfortable night's sleep.

#2 Beat the heat

Sure, it's November. And if you are anywhere like Chicago, it's getting chilly outside. But with the heat blasting, sleeping under all those blankets can get hot. Going nude, even in the winter months, will keep you from sweating!

#3 Go green

The less you wear, the less you wash. Save Mother Nature and a few loads of laundry by going naked. You won't need to wash your pajamas and other nightly negligees every week, which saves you time and money while helping the environment.

#4 Sex, sex, sex

Great sex comes from having confidence. When you are worried about your body, chances are your sex won't be that great. For better sex, sleep naked! Get comfortable in your own skin! If you are married or live with your partner, invite them to go nude too. Sleeping naked doesn't have to always lead to sex; it's such a wonderful and sensual moment to just hold each other nude. However, there are pros to sleeping naked together — when you don't have to unbutton shirts or deal with bra hooks, sex is that much easier and more frequent.

#5 It's healthy

It is liberating to come home and undress from those restrictive clothes you wore for hours at a time. So stay naked once you undress for bed. Being naked gives your pores access to more oxygen that it then uses to pump clean healthy blood to your brain, heart and vital organs. So get naked and let every surface of your body breathe while you sleep.

#6 More Confidence

It is scary to be naked when we aren't comfortable in our own skin. Being that raw and vulnerable is difficult for anyone! Going naked exposes all the parts we tend to hide or improve with clothing. As you see and feel your naked body you begin to embrace every curve, freckle, scar and any other imperfections you think you have. So remove your clothes and start loving yourself. Your confidence will soar and negative thoughts will dissolve.

#7 It's Fun!

Being naked is so freeing! Have you ever heard of Chicago's annual World Naked Bike Ride? Naked individuals ride their bicycles at night as a way of celebrating the human body and freedom from oil. No, you don't have to go streaking to have fun, but once you start sleeping naked, you may start cooking naked, cleaning naked and just being naked more in general! The more living you do naked, the happier you will be with you body too.

4 Ways to Start Meditating for Better Sex

Meditation seems to be a huge trend right now in the celebrity world with Orlando Bloom and Gisele Bundchen claiming to meditate. But its more than a mere fad. Meditation, like yoga, is thousands of years old! Its healing properties such as reducing stress and bringing about more mental well-being should have everyone meditating! But lets face it: meditation can be scary and intimidating. But, what if I told you that mediation can actually help you reach orgasms? Would you start chanting and making the sound of "om" more? Our Lora Swarts reports on how to get started with meditation!

* * *

According to researchers at Brown University in Rhode Island, women who are able to train their mind and thoughts during sex will experience more pleasure. The study followed 44 students: 30 of whom were women and half of whom had taken a 12 week meditation course. The participants were shown a slideshow of erotic images. When asked to describe their reaction as calm, anxious or aroused, the women who were mediating already registered more quickly as feeling aroused. Meditation allows us to feel more and not get caught up in our own thoughts. When we focus on "feeling" more then we may have a higher chance of orgasming quicker as opposed to letting ourselves get caught up in our heads.

Along with my yoga practice, I love to mediate. Even if its for 10 minutes a day, I always feel more serene, calm, and have more gratitude. Mediation can lead to self-love, body awareness and more attention span all of which can help you with reaching an orgasm! Although orgasms shouldn't be the end goal of sex (that is just too much pressure on a person), it sure is nice to know that meditation can help us reach them! We have already written on some yoga poses to help you have better sex, now its time for some delicious meditation to improve our sex lives!

#1 Quiet environment

First things first. Be sure to find a comfortable and quiet spot in your home, office, gym, wherever! In order to really go inside you need space and lots of quiet. Do not rush the meditation process. Start with 10-15 minutes and gradually increase your meditation time. Sit up straight and stay comfortable by resting your bum on a folded blanket. Its difficult at first to sit still but just know that you will reap the benefits soon enough. Just like anything it takes time.

#2 Breathe

Just as in yoga, breath is important in meditation. Using breathing exercising helps you get into a more relaxed state. Focus your attention on your belly with every inhale and exhale (feel it expand and deflate as you breath). Try inhaling slowly to a count of three. Then hold your breath for a count of three at the top of your inhale. Exhale for three counts. Once you get used to this style of breathing, increase your counts and hold the breath longer. Using your breath helps keep you focused and more aware. During sex, your breath can help you feel more aware and present. When you are relaxed and your mind is settled you can more easily orgasm.

#3 Personal mantra

If counting your breath isn't helping you relax and focus, try a mantra or a combo of both! A mantra is a sacred word or phrase that you can speak aloud or with the voice in your head. Also, try imagining a peaceful place in your mind. Focus on this calm place, and let your mind go there. Focusing on your breath, mantra or image will greatly help you in reaching your personal peace. Need help developing your mantra?  Get started with "Om" which is the classic and sacred sound of Hinduism.

#4 Clear your mind

When your mind begins to wander, non-judgmentally push those thoughts aside without labeling them "good" or "bad" and come back to your breath count, mantra or image. Silencing your mind is the pinnacle of mediation. Meditation is a journey, so just take it all in! When thoughts do enter your mind, and they will, impartially observe them and gently push them away until silence returns.  Eventually you will be able to control your thoughts!

Meditation brings about concentration, knowledge of self, better health, and helps us stay in the present and worry less about the past and future. Think about it. During sex, if you can concentrate more, detach your mind from disruptive thoughts, and relax, orgasming is just around the corner! So start "oming" to start having that big "O"!

Ladies! 3 Surprising Types of Orgasms

Orgasm October has been teaching us so much already! We have already gone over six orgasms so far during this sexy month: clitoral, vaginal, mentalU-spot, A-spot and breast orgasms. We couldn't leave you hanging. So we are back with even more types of orgasms that the female body is capable of experiencing! How could we possibly have three more orgasms to share you ask? Well, ladies our bodies are that amazing and beautiful! Our Lora Swarts reports.

* * *

#1 Skin or (zone)

The skin orgasm can be brought about by massaging or touching parts of the body that are not directly related to the sexual nervous system (back of the neck, inside of the thigh and lower back).

Women can absolutely experience orgasm from a simple massage, or any stimulus to the skin because it brings on a relaxed state. If you aren't fully orgasming from this stimulation, don't worry! Touching is still amazing foreplay. Make it better by using a blindfold! Not knowing where his lips are headed is truly teasing and orgasmic.

Have you ever had an skin orgasm? Do leave a comment below!

#2 Anal

Women can experience orgasms from anal stimulation! According to The Journal of Sexual Medicine, women who orgasmed vaginally in their last sexual encounter was 65 percent. On the other hand, women who orgasmed from oral sex was 81% and women who orgasmed anally was 94%! Yeah, we were surprised, too. Check out the study here (pages 357-358). Maybe that's why women are more into anal than before or at least giving it a try.

For example, Marie Claire asked in 2011, "Is Anal the New Oral?" Quite possibly, yes! Dr. Jenn already given us advice on how to give better anal pleasure. But if you are totally new to anal pleasure, check out our anal sex mini-guide for couples! Don't forget about communication with anal sex (and all forms of new sexual activity). Also, we do recommend doucheing inside your anus and (rectum) for both men and women--before anal sex. Also, anal can be scary or nerve-racking for some women. So ask first, use a lubricant and go very slowly.

Do you have anal tips or tricks? Do leave them below!

#3 Oral or mouth

Women who are sensitive orally can experience an oral or mouth orgasm. Kissing, licking, sucking, gently nibbling and even oral sex contribute to the mouth orgasm.

This type of orgasm can be described as beginning in the lips. Then, the orgasm spreads from the mouth to the genitals and then all over the body. Start with lots of foreplay! Making out is simple but can really send blood flowing to all over your body!
